Hourly Wage Range: $25-$32/hr
The Asphalt Mill Operator Trainee is responsible for learning the safe and efficient operation of milling machines to remove and grind the surface of asphalt for roadways, parking lots, and other surfaces. This role involves hands-on training with heavy machinery, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring the quality of the milling process under the supervision of experienced operators.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in operating asphalt milling machines to remove and grind asphalt surfaces to specified depths and dimensions.
- Perform daily inspections and maintenance of milling equipment, including checking fluid levels, replacing minor parts, and lubricating machinery.
- Learn to monitor and adjust grade control devices to ensure accurate milling operations.
- Assist in inspecting and replacing milling teeth on the milling drum to maintain proper cutting patterns.
- Maintain awareness of the machine’s surroundings to avoid obstructions and ensure safety.
- Communicate effectively with team members on the ground and truck drivers to coordinate milling operations.
- Perform general labor duties as assigned, including site cleanup and assisting other crew members.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions from experienced operators.
- Basic understanding of heavy machinery operation is a plus.
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to perform tasks involving stretching, bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work overtime and adapt to schedule changes as needed.
Working Hours and Shifts:
- This is a Full-time Seasonal Position, working April through November (weather permitting).
- Average work days are typically 12-14 hours, requiring overtime and working occasional Saturdays.
- Travel is required throughout the region, with occasional overnight stays compensated.

Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have Valid Driver’s license. Class A CDL is preferred but not required.
- Pre-Employment Drug Test and Physical Required.

- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with co-workers, customers, and the public.
- Compliance with all industry regulations and safety standards.
